About My Abstracts
My abstract works are created using the same recycled magazine collage technique as my figurative pieces, but with a different emphasis. Rather than forming realistic imagery from paper, I use small fragments of recycled magazine pages as a starting point—allowing a scrap or two of color or text to anchor the composition. From there, I build an abstract image through layered paint and mixed media.
These works are less about representation and more about feeling. They reflect a belief that beauty often emerges through change and reinvention, and that even the smallest fragments, often overlooked or discarded, can hold unexpected depth.
Living on 80 acres of wild Northern Michigan land shapes everything I create. The quiet, the shifting seasons, and the persistence of growth despite formidable circumstances influence both my process and the finished work. This translates into an emphasis on texture and movement that echoes the rhythms of the natural world.
